Solvent-based paints: Driers
These are organometallic salts, normally octoates and naphthenates, whose purpose is to catalyze the reaction of the alkyd resin of the enamel with the oxygen in the air, causing the film to dry.
Products line:
LIOSEC® HC Cobalt
It is the most active drier, and acts on the paint surface. It should be used together with auxiliary driers to avoid wrinkling or adherence loss in the paint.
Normally provided in concentrations of 6% and 12%, and can be adapted to client’s needs.
Indicated dosage: 0,01 to 0,04% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOSEC® HC Manganese
This is the second most active drier, and acts on the paint surface. It should be used together with auxiliary driers to avoid wrinkling or adherence loss in the paint. Depending on the dosage, it may cause yellowing in white paints.
Normally provided in concentrations of 6% and 9%, and can be adapted to client’s needs.
Indicated dosage: 0,01 to 0,04% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOSEC® HC Calcium
An auxiliary drier of low activity that should be used in conjunction with Cobalt or Manganese. Its main function is to help in the improvement of the film hardness and gloss.
Supplied in concentrations of 4% and 6%.
Dosage: 0,05 to 0,30% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOSEC® HC Zirconium
Its main function is to help in the activity of Cobalt or Manganese driers. It improves the film hardness, color and gloss prevents wrinkles and can be a substitute for Lead.
Supplied in concentrations of 6%, 12%, 18% and 24%
Dosage: 0,10 to 0,30% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOSEC® HC Zinc
Its main function is to help in the activity of Cobalt driers producing a harder film. It keeps the film surface open, allowing a greater oxygen entry forming a surface of uniform hardness.
Supplied in concentrations of 8%, 18% and 22%.
Dosage: 0,05 to 0,15% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOSEC® HC Strontium
Auxiliary drier of low activity which should be used in conjunction with Cobalt or Manganese. It can replace Calcium driers in emulsified paints and replace Lead in atoxic paints, when used with other auxiliary driers (Zinc or Zirconium)
Normally provided in a concentration of 10%.
Dosage: 0,20 to 0,50% of metal based on resin solid content in the paint, which should be optimized in laboratory.
LIOPLEX® Combo
Compositions of organometallic salts, stabilized with appropriate hydrocarbons, which together have a synergistic effect that gives the paint a complete drying.
Miracema-Nuodex has a specialized paints application laboratory for development of new driers mixtures compositions. The tests are carried out with the clients’ paints, and in this way the best composition for a particular paint can be determined. One of the first mixtures developed by Miracema-Nuodex was LIOPLEX COMBO 302, which exhibits good characteristics in various kinds of paints.
